Francis Kweon
Director Conductor
Francis started his music career 30 years ago at Hanyang university where he received his Bachelor of Arts in music performance. In the same year, he began conducting at the Seoul Catholic church marking the start of his passion for choir conducting . He came to Boston to study at Boston Conservatory and attended Longy School of Music of Bard college for a Performance Artist diploma. He has served as music director and /conductor of the Korean Catholic church from 1999 to present, growing the choir in both numbers and musical quality.

Francis founded the Caritas choir, which held annual concerts from its inception in 2001 until 2010. Their great success brought joy to the Korean and greater Boston community alike, spreading the powerful bond of music and increasing awareness of the Korean Catholic Church. He believes it is his apostolic mission to find meaning in faith with others through singing and praise
Ever since he started his career as a conductor, Francis grew particularly interested in how singers of all skill levels can find self-satisfaction in singing through healthy technique with emphasis on breathing. His whole-body method relies on both experience and research in the field. He believes in people and the healing power of music, especially the raw and honest sound of amateur singers. With the belief that anyone can be a good singer with proper training, he founded the Boston Korean Singers program in 2013 at Boston Mentors Music in Wellesley, where he works as an music educator/director. Since 2013, the adult students of Francis Kweon have grown with his teaching through concerts, and volunteer performances. The concert “Bibim” in 2019 and “Bibim 2”, in 2022 drew large crowds where Korean BibimBap was prepared and served by the singers after the concerts in effort to share music and Korean culture.
Francis’s voice can be characterized by its various tones and resonant tenor quality. His ability to reach the souls of his audience speaks to his ideology that singing is an art of emotion even beyond technique. As a vocal teacher and conductor of the Korean Catholic church, Francis’s life and work touches the far corners of our local community and its effect only continues to expand.
